Ricker's Forty

"Fainting Goats"

If it don't Faint, it's just a Goat!

We raise Myotonic goats, most often called "Tennessee Fainting Goats",  which are listed as a "threatened" breed by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.  Myotonic Goats have a unique genetic trait called  Myotonia Congenita which causes their muscles to "freeze" when suddenly startled or excited.  Often, they try to run, and with stiff legs can easily fall over in a "faint".  It's harmless, painless, passes in a few seconds, then they'll get up and be fine.  It's actually beneficial for building good muscle mass. Fainting goats are fun to raise, easy kidders and excellent mothers.  You can find more breed info at: www.myotonicgoatregistry.net or www.albc-usa.org.  We are dedicated to preserving this wonderful rare breed!
